The Critical Troubadour

Pedro Luis Ferrer counts – together with Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés – among the most important representatives of the Cuban “Nueva Trova” movement of the 70ies.
„I am my own version of what is Cuban. I am my own version of son. I am my own version of trova. I am even my own version of the Cuban revolution“.
His recent CD's were released by the New York based label Escondida: On both “Rústico” (2005) and “Natural” (2006) he finds his very own way of combining Cuban rhythms such as changuí, trova espirituana and son with instruments that are rarely used in Cuban music (e.g. cajon and marimbula).
